The Harmon Volunteer Fire Department is awarded a grant through a state program.
The release from the department is below:
The Harmon Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce that we were awarded a $15,000.00 50/50 matching grant through the Rural Community Grant Program by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. We would like to thank Tina Cole with the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc. for her hard work and time helping us achieve this.
We sought out this grant to purchase fire hose for our eight fire apparatus. Our existing hose supply was mainly used hose donated to us by larger fire departments over the years and had dwindled down from general use, training, and testing. Much of it is over 30 years old and wore to the point where many were bursting when used. The total cost was approximately $35,000 which we could not cover with our budget. This grant along with funds from the State of Arkansas Act 833 Program, we are now able to replace all fire hose and have replacements on standby. This will increase our effectiveness and overall safety for our citizens and firefighters.
