A program funded by the federal government and administered by the Arkansas Department of Transportation has awarded grants for several area projects.
The Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Programs supply funds for smaller projects around the state.
According to ARDOT, TAP is a reimbursement-type grant program that provides for an 80 percent federal share with a 20 percent match required from the eligible sponsor. Funds for Recreational Trails are also part of the TAP Program.
Area grants awarded in 2024 include two in Carroll County for improvements to crosswalks and sidewalks on the square in Berryville and for a City Park Walking Trail in Green Forest. There was also a recreational grant for greenway between the Green Forest Schools and a nearby neighborhood.
Other TAP Grants include on in Marion County for the third phase of sidewalk improvements in Flippin and in Searcy County for a crosswalk at the high school in Marshall.
