A federal program to help low income families afford groceries will feel the impact of the ongoing Government Shutdown.
Officials in both Arkansas and Missouri state that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP will discontinue issuing monthly benefits as of the first of November.
Officials from both states are encouraging families that use the SNAP benefits to seek out local food banks and pantries to help supplement their food supply until the government shutdown is resolved.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has posted on their website that they will no continue to supply benefits past November 1st unless the government shutdown is resolved.
Multiple sources state that there are bills in both the House and Senate, including a bill introduced by Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley, that could potentially extend SNAP Benefits if the government shutdown continues.
