A former longtime member of the Marion County Airport Board has been sentenced after admitting to stealing money from the airport has received his sentence.
Court documents indicate 66-year-old Douglas Starkey of Yellville has avoided jailtime as part of the sentence but has been ordered to serve five years probation and pay restitution.
An 11-month investigation by the Arkansas State Police showed that Starkey, during his time serving as the Airport Board's Treasurer in 2017, had stolen over $117,000 from the airport. The investigation included interviews with witnesses, one of which stated that Starkey had confessed to him that he had taken the money, something to which Starkey later admitted to investigators.
