Drought Conditions Continue but Rain on the Way

While conditions remain dry in the Lakes Region, some rain could help alleviate drought conditions.

The latest map released Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of the Missouri Lakes Region at a Severe Drought Level. Northern Arkansas has a variety of conditions from Moderate Drought on the western end of the Lakes Region to Extreme on the east side including all of Searcy County as well as parts of Marion and Newton Counties. The Harrison area remains at a Severe Level.

The National Weather Service says that rainfall will move through the region Saturday with the Lakes Region seeing a potential two to three inches of precipitation. Forecasters say a few embedded thunderstorms are possible though no flooding or severe weather is expected.

Rain will end by Sunday with next week’s forecast calling for no precipitation and above normal temperatures.
