With progress stalled on the proposed Franklin County prison, Arkansas State Senator Bryan King weighed in.
King did that during his appearance on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Wednesday. He tied the stall to a budget issue. "Previous governors and [the] legislature hadn't budgeted enough money for corrections," King said. He said that part of the budget isn't well-funded and hasn't had sufficient funding for years. King commented on Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee-Sanders wanting the project done.
While the senator supports that, he explained that there were issues from the start. The property was purchased, but a lot of details were overlooked.
King said the unraveling of the project brought several issues into the light, including a serious water problem. "There's no water out there," the senator said. He revealed that drillers discovered sulfur water after down 200 feet. The worst part: it's not enough water to run a living space.
More was discussed on the broadcast. The full interview with King is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
