Boone County Woman Faces Forgery Charges

A Boone County woman has been arrested following the use of counterfeit currency. 36-year-old Stefanie Wagoner is facing two charges of forgery.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on February 8, deputies received a complaint from a Harps worker in Bellefonte stating some fake currency had been used the night before. A deputy was later dispatched to the location for a report of the same suspect attempting to buy more items with fake currency.

Deputies approached Wagoner, who was with her child, and told her he did not want to explain what was going on with the child present. The child and Wagoner’s husband then left the store. The deputy explained to Wagoner he was investigating a fake currency report and stated they had a reports she had used fake bills that day and the night before. Wagoner claimed she did not know the bills were fake and told deputies, “Someone gave me counterfeit off of the yard sale page.”

When deputies asked Wagoner who gave her the fake bills, she stated she did not remember the person’s name and stated those were the only two counterfeit bills she had. Deputies then asked what Wagoner purchased the previous night, she said, “I think it was fuel for my husband’s vehicle” and couldn’t remember how much she spent. Wagoner told authorities it was the only hundred she had because they bought the item from a yard sale for $200.

Authorities state both counterfeit bills had the same serial number.

Wagoner was booked into the Boone County Detention Center on two felony counts of forgery. She was released on a $5,000 bond.
