A woman is facing charges of animal cruelty and endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to court documents, a Boone County Deputy was dispatched to the residence of 37-year-old Mikenda Tilton located on Old Bergman Road for an animal welfare check. The deputy discovered one dog was deceased and four others were in severely underweight. Upon interviewing Tilton, she admitted that the dogs had not had water for nearly two weeks and were feed sporadically. The probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff's Office adds that the deceased dog had been dead for a week and the body left in a pen with the other dogs.
In addition, it was discovered that Tilton had four children living with her fulltime and another three every other week in accordance with a custody agreement. Those children also had access to the dog pen area.
Tilton is facing five counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. She was released on a $10,000 Bond with a court date to hear the case set for January of next year.
