In a recent post on the department's Facebook page, Boone County Sheriff’s officials are warning residents about scams to get bank or credit card information.
One of the scams involves callers saying they are from the Sheriff’s Office to inform the caller that they have a warrant out for them and a way to pay the department money to get rid of the warrant.
The post reminds residents that the court system is the department that issues warrants and that the department would never call a resident to inform them of one being issued. The department also states in the post that there is a specific procedure for taking money and that it does not involve cash apps or gift cards.
