The Arkansas State Police has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a man on Friday.
According to the release from the state police, the Caroll County Sheriff's Office received a call of a man brandishing a handgun during a disturbance at the Rowdy Bever Den in Eureka Springs. Officers from the Eureka Springs Police Department arrived on the scene and observed the suspect, 36-year-old Christopher Vanschoick sitting in a vehicle. When the officers confronted Vanschoick, a struggle took place that led to the suspect producing a handgun with one of the officers then firing his gun striking Vanschoick who died from his injuries.
The release says that the ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division will present an investigative case file to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
