Arrest Made in Case Involving Fire at Wastewater Treatment Plant

An investigation into a fire at a Diamond City Wastewater Treatment plant that closed an area of Bull Shoals Lake to swimmers concludes it was intentionally set.

A release by the Boone County Sheriff's Office indicates that two juveniles are believed to be involved in setting the fire and could be involved in other crimes.

Sugarloaf Waste Water Treatment Facility Fire 
Sheriff Roy Martin reports that on April 26, 2023 at 9:02 P.M. the Boone County 911 call center received notification that the Sugarloaf Waste Water Treatment facility, located in Diamond City was on fire.  Diamond City, Lead Hill and Bergman Fire Departments responded along with Diamond City Police Chief Troy Burleson. The fire was contained and extinguished due to the outstanding efforts by the three local fire departments and their volunteer fire fighters.
Chief Burleson contacted the Boone County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in the investigation of the fire. Boone County Investigators responded and began the fire investigation as well as investigating any possible criminal involvement.  The investigation resulted with evidence that suggested that the fire was intentionally set. 
Sheriff Martin said as a result of the joint investigation with the Diamond City Police, investigators have identified at least two juvenile suspects as being involved with the crime.  Criminal charges against the persons alleged are being reviewed, along with continuing follow-up efforts which are still on-going.  Investigators believe the juveniles involved may be responsible for additional crimes in the area which are currently being investigated.
