LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced her plans for a Medicaid work requirement at a Tuesday news conference.
Sanders said the program will update the existing ARHOME Medicaid program. The “Pathway to Prosperity” update will establish work and community engagement requirements.
The governor said the work requirements would improve health outcomes and economic independence for those enrolled in ARHOME.
In a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary-Designate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Sanders requested a waiver to standing Medicaid rules to allow Arkansas to establish a work requirement.
“Our goal is never to take services away from those who need it but to help people stand on their own two feet so they don’t have to count on the government,” the governor’s letter stated.
