An area member of the Arkansas State House announces his retirement.
Jack Fortner tells KTLO in Mountain Home that he will not run for re-election next year to the District 4 Seat he has held since 2016. Fortner said he will serve out the remainder of his current term through 2024 representing his home area of Yellville and Marion County as well as parts of Baxter County .
Fortner first was elected to the House in a Special Election in 2016 and was just reelected to his fourth full term last year.
Fortner tells KTLO that loss of civility and decorum in the House, though not as bad as in Washington D.C., factored into his decision as did the death of his wife Pam in 2021.
The interview can be heard on the KTLO Website.
