A Pyatt man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies say he led them on a high-speed pursuit reaching 112 mph, forced other drivers off the road and was found with controlled substances in his car.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy recognized 43-year-old Cameron Ply on Aug. 7 as the suspect in a recent breaking and entering case and noticed he was not wearing a seat belt while driving in the Zinc area.
When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, Ply allegedly fled west on Zinc Road, passing other vehicles on double yellow lines and forcing a gray SUV into a ditch. At times, Ply drove in the oncoming lane, swerved toward oncoming traffic and threw an object from his car, the affidavit states. Speeds reached 112 mph in a 45 mph zone before the deputy used a tactical vehicle intervention to stop him.
After surrendering, Ply told deputies he fled to “get away from” people in Pyatt, not because of the seat belt violation, according to the affidavit.
A search of Ply’s vehicle under his active parole search waiver uncovered his wallet, multiple pill bottles containing alprazolam and tramadol, both Schedule IV controlled substances, and a glass pipe with suspected marijuana residue. Deputies did not recover the item Ply was seen throwing from the car.
Ply, who is on parole, has prior convictions for felony fleeing in 2016 and resisting arrest in 2020, along with four previous felony and eight misdemeanor convictions, the affidavit states.
He faces charges including felony fleeing in a vehicle, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic offenses, and is listed as a habitual offender.
