According to information collected by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette from the Arkansas Department of Transportation, 98 Bridges that are classified as both fracture critical and structurally deficient with some of the same issues that led to closure of the I-40 Bridge that connects Arkansas and Tennessee at Memphis.

Officials tell the Arkansas Democrat that does not mean the bridges are unsafe, but are monitored more carefully because of the way they were constructed and materials used.

Just a handful of the bridges listed are in the region and one, the Highway 7 Bridge over the Buffalo River at Pruitt, was recently replaced by a new bridge and the old one was demolished on Wednesday.

Among the other area bridges listed are the bridge over Bear Creek on Searcy County Road 278 southwest of Marshall while a bridge over the Kings River on County Road 1919 near Marble is one of six bridges in Madison County on the list.
