The fifth annual Alpena Freedom Fest is on June 29 at Alpena City Park.

Jody Marshall appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Wednesday to talk about the festival. The event launched in 2020. It runs all day and has something for attendees of all ages. There's a kids' fishing derby; registration opens at 8 a.m.

That particular activity is for kids 14 and under. Marshall also said a car show will kick off at 10 a.m.

He said that entries for the car show are taken on the day of the show. Anyone wanting to participate just needs to show up and register.

The festival won't just have a car show but a motorcycle show too. Marshall said that the idea came after talking to a newer generation of veterans.

In addition to all of that, over 20 craft vendors will attend. Anyone who loves watermelon has an opportunity to eat some of the fruit.

A watermelon eating contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. a cornhole contest will start.

More activities will fill the time until the event concludes. At around 8:45 p.m. some Boy Scouts will do a flag presentation.

To help wrap things up, fire dancers will perform. The night will end with a bang in the sky.

A fireworks show will end the night. Live music will play during the festival.

Marshall said that live music will start at 2 p.m. Former American Idol contestant Ryan Harmon will perform later in the day.
